Visual acuity measurements used in Japan

The international standard of visual acuity measurement is used in Japan. Landolt C rings are used for the test charts and the measurements are presented in decimal units. Snellen charts are not used in Japan. If you want to covert the measurements from one to the other, see the chart below.

About the health insurance card

Payment for routine office visits are typically covered by the National Health and Social Insurance programs (10%～30% of the payment will be charged). You must present your card on your first visit and also on your first visit of every month afterwards. You also must declare and present your card in case of any changes in your documentation. Copy of the card is not acceptable. If you forget your card, the entire payment will be charged although an adjusted amount will be paid back later when the card is presented.
